All About Love (by bell hooks)

I discovered bell hooks through one of my favorite Buddhist meditation teachers, Sharon Salzberg. Salzberg frequently praised bell hooks in her podcasts and books, viewing her as a profound educator and dear friend. When I came across bell hooks’ book, All About Love, during an Audible sale, I decided it was the ideal moment to delve into her work.

In her book All About Love, bell hooks explores the concept of love in various aspects of our lives. She delves into the behavior of lying, particularly in the child-parent relationship, and examines how men and women are motivated to lie. hooks also discusses how to incorporate the behavior of love into the workplace to achieve happiness at work. Throughout the book, she frequently incorporates her personal experiences, particularly her childhood and intimate relationships. Some of my favorite topics include materialism, loneliness versus solitude, and death. The most profound and yet simple point made by bell hooks is that love is often defined as a noun, and we would be more effective in applying it as a verb.

I thoroughly enjoyed the narration of the audiobook by January LaVoy.
