Tales by Edgar Allan Poe

My husband has been a fan of Edgar Allan Poe forever. As a reader and fan of horror stories, I have always appreciated Poe’s work. Together, we enjoy searching for unique Poe books in bookstores everywhere. Years ago we found this special book on one of our adventures. This is a limited edition published by West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, 1964. It includes the stories: The Gold Bug, The Purloined Letter, The Balloon Hoax, and The Black Cat.

The hardcover is beautifully embossed with ‘POE.’ The spine is simply titled ‘EDGAR ALLAN POE’ in gold lettering.

The end papers are an illustration of a stormy sea and land in the background. I love that the artist used a very dark green with cream instead of a black and white drawing.

The book is safely stored inside an artistic slipcase of a drawing of bats.

The Purloined Letter is printed in landscape so the reader has to hold the book horizontally to read it. It’s also printed on green paper, similar to the color in the end papers and slipcase.

There are images and drawings throughout the book. For example, you can see the first pages of The Black Cat.

Our purchase of this book is for collecting. It doesn’t appear this book has ever been read as the spine is very stiff. You can tell from the pictures I didn’t want to open the book very far as to stress the spine. The book made plenty of noise as I gently pried it open to explore its contents. We absolutely love this book as it sits proudly with our ever growing Poe collection.

I recently found a copy of this book available on Amazon. I have included a link in the image below for anyone looking for their own copy to enjoy…if it’s still available.
